R+CO – a Hollywood star favourite
Every woman knows her hair is her crown – one she’ll never take off. So it’s worth getting to know your hair type well and taking responsible care of your “crown“. The best helpers here are the world-renowned R+CO brand’s quality hair care and styling products.
Created by top world stylists Howard McLaren, Thom Priano, and Garren, the hair care brand R+CO is one of the most distinctive brands in its field. These three men, with their wealth of experience, know the secret to great hair care – and now their acclaimed products are finally available to beautiful Estonian women like you!
R+CO offers everyday care products as well as Hollywood star favourites – striking styling products, each tied to an experience or an emotion. You can sense the outstanding quality of the products just by looking at R+CO’s distinctive packaging. Every product supports creative freedom for stylists and everyday users alike, encouraging experimentation and the courage to try different styles!
As if that weren’t enough, there’s another reason to choose R+CO’s funky-designed products: every product from this brand is gluten-free and 100% vegan. The products contain no parabens, sulfates (SLS or SLES), or mineral oil.
R+CO – Which ingredients should you avoid?
- Parabens – (methyl-, propyl-, butyl-, ethylparaben, etc.) are cheap artificial preservatives that accumulate in our bodies unchanged. Parabens disrupt our hormonal balance and have also been linked to breast cancer, since paraben compounds have been found in diseased tissue.
- SLS, or Sodium Lauryl Sulfate – this is a cheap industrial cleanser that creates foam and is mostly used in dish and floor cleaning products. The compound removes dirt and grease effectively, but at the same time irritates and dries out the skin, causing it to produce even more oil in response.
- Petrolatum, or mineral oil – also known as paraffin, paraffinum liquidum, petroleum jelly, is a byproduct of oil refining that can be contaminated with carcinogenic compounds during manufacturing. With long-term use it builds up in hair and instead causes dryness, brittleness, and breakage. It also creates a filmy layer that gives a false sense of hydration and smoothness.
Hair-washing ABCs
When washing your hair, it’s important to thoroughly wet it before applying shampoo. While washing, massage your scalp thoroughly with your fingertips, since it’s really the scalp that needs cleansing the most. For the rest of the hair, the foam that reaches it during rinsing is usually enough. If your hair still feels oily, rinse the shampoo out thoroughly and start washing again with fresh shampoo.
After washing, be sure to rinse your hair very thoroughly, until you can only feel water in your hair and no shampoo residue remains in the rinse water.
Which R+CO shampoo should you choose?
Choosing a shampoo can be tricky. The range of shampoos is extremely wide – moisturising, strengthening, smoothing, colour-safe, volumising, and so on – so how do you choose the shampoo that’s right for your hair type?
Before choosing a shampoo, it’s important to know what the shampoo does, how to use it, and how it relates to your hair and scalp type.
- Sensitive scalp tends to show itching and irritation.
- You can tell you have a dry scalp if it only needs washing once a week.
- An oily scalp, on the other hand, may need washing as often as three times a week.
Still, keep in mind that washing your hair every day is never a good idea – if your hair becomes oily too quickly, check whether the hair care products you’re using actually suit your hair type. For those who aren’t sure how to assess their own hair type, a great solution is the R+CO Television Perfect Hair shampoo, which suits every hair type. The product gives hair shape, shine, strength, softness, and smoothness. That’s where the name Perfect comes from!
A blonde’s favourite – purple shampoo
We’ve all heard that blondes have more fun, but when it comes to keeping that beautiful blonde colour, it might not feel that fun at all! Blonde hair tends to lose its cool undertone rather quickly, but this is where a true beauty miracle and lifesaver comes in – purple, or “silver,” shampoo! Blonde hair turning brassy is caused by several factors, most commonly excessive sun exposure, harsh shampoos, and excessive heat styling with hair dryers and straighteners.
Why a purple shampoo? Since purple and yellow are opposite colours on the colour wheel, purple-toned shampoos help reduce brassiness, resulting in a more beautiful hair colour!
How do you use a purple shampoo? If your hair is just starting to turn brassy, use R+CO Sunset Blvd Blonde Shampoo and conditioner once a week instead of your regular shampoo and conditioner. Work the shampoo into a lather for about 2-3 minutes, rinse, then apply the purple conditioner to your hair for about 5 minutes. As your hair gets more used to the purple tone, extend how long you leave the products in over time.
R+CO shampoo for blonde hair – Sunset Blvd Blonde Shampoo makes blonde hair extra radiant and grey hair beautifully silver, removing brassy tones. Suitable for maintaining blonde, grey, and white hair colour, it adds shine without turning hair purple. The product contains a natural mineral pigment that neutralises brassy and yellow tones in blonde and grey hair. Aloe leaf extract locks in moisture and smooths hair, while lemon balm protects hair and helps prevent it from becoming dull.
Conditioner for your hair’s needs
Why do we need hair conditioner? Using conditioner after washing your hair is extremely important: while shampoo opens the outer layer of the hair and cleanses both scalp and hair of dirt, excess oil, and styling product residue, conditioner closes the hair’s cuticle. Conditioner protects hair from the environmental effects mentioned above and makes it noticeably smoother, shinier, and more vibrant in colour. So it’s important to use conditioner to keep hair resilient and healthy, and to keep it clean for longer.
It’s also important to know that conditioner and shampoo from the same product line should always be used together, since that gives a stronger effect and noticeably more beautiful, healthier-looking hair!
Which conditioner should you choose?
For fine, thin hair, the best choice is a volumising conditioner. It smooths hair without weighing it down. It leaves hair light and naturally full of movement.
If you’ve chemically treated or frequently coloured your hair, you need a super-nourishing or deeply moisturising conditioner that gives a wonderfully smoothing effect! The rich blend of active ingredients it contains is exactly what thirsty hair needs.
If you want your hair colour to stay vibrant for longer, your best helper here is a colour-protecting conditioner that seals the hair cuticle. A colour-protecting conditioner keeps colour pigment from slipping out and smooths and repairs the hair’s surface, damaged from colouring.
Hair styling
Every woman probably knows that the right, reliable hairspray can save a day – or a party. With a million different hairsprays to choose from, finding the right one to help you achieve the look you want can be quite tricky. A good rule of thumb: if you want your hair not to fly around and to stay straight, choose the lightest-hold spray.
If you’re planning a hairstyle that’s loosely pinned up, choose a medium-hold spray, and if you have an important day ahead where your style needs to last from morning until evening – and then survive a dance marathon on top of that – choose the strongest-hold hairspray. Here, a great choice is the R+CO hairspray Outer Space Flexible Hairspray, used by top hairstylists on photo shoots and in Hollywood film studios.
This product also works great for creating curls. Use R+CO Outer Space Flexible hairspray to spray each section before curling – this way curls last longer. Just remember not to spray the product too close or too much. Spray the hairspray onto the section before curling it (from about 20-30 cm away and not too heavily), then run your fingers through your hair once before using the curling iron, so the product distributes evenly.

R+CO Outer Space Flexible is also great for simply putting hair up in a ponytail, and thanks to its light formula you can reapply it again and again throughout the day. A blend of polymers thickens hair, gives it flexible hold, and protects against heat. Vitamin B5 nourishes and adds volume and body!
If you don’t manage to wash your hair as often as you’d like, dry shampoo comes to the rescue!
For a fresher look, use dry shampoo by spraying it onto your roots. Or put your hair up in a ponytail, for example, so a slightly oilier root isn’t as visible.
R+CO SPIRITUALIZED Dry Shampoo Mist is a completely new kind of dry shampoo. Its revolutionary micellar formula leaves hair and scalp cleaner than regular dry shampoos, since it doesn’t leave powdery residue in your hair. The product is great for using between washes.
The castor oil in the dry shampoo’s formula is an effective moisturiser that draws moisture into the hair, keeping it soft and radiant. R+CO SPIRITUALIZED Dry Shampoo Mist adds fullness and shine to hair, removes flakes, and improves hair health. As a bonus, it leaves hair smelling wonderful.
