The Biotherm Biosource cleanser – Total Renew Oil – is a self-foaming cleansing oil that removes make-up and cleanses the face in one step. Massaged onto dry skin it dissolves make-up, and on contact with water it turns into a foam. The pump bottle holds 200 ml.

What is the Biotherm Biosource cleanser?

Biotherm calls Total Renew Oil a dual-action cleanser: first an oil, then a foam. The oil removes long-wear foundation, lipstick and waterproof eye make-up without drying out the skin. At the same time it clears away sweat and urban impurities. According to Biotherm, the oil removes 73% of PM2.5 fine particles. In the brand’s self-assessment with 62 women, it removed foundation for 98% of them immediately after use.

After washing, Biotherm says, skin is doubly cleansed, glowing and renewed. It also feels velvety to the touch.

What is in the formula?

Biotherm describes it as a blend of plant oils: corn, apricot kernel, passion fruit seed and rice bran oil. Extract of the golden alga L. saccharina helps stop micro-particles from settling on the skin, the brand says. The oil also contains Biotherm’s Life Plankton™, which the brand describes as a pure thermal plankton extract. Tocopherol (vitamin E) is in the formula as well. The product is made in France.

How to use

1. Take 3–4 pumps of oil and warm it between your palms.
2. Apply to a dry face and massage in circles until the make-up dissolves.
3. Add lukewarm water and work it into a foam.
4. Rinse thoroughly and continue with your usual routine.

Does the oil remove waterproof mascara?

Yes. Biotherm designed it to remove long-wear make-up and waterproof eye make-up as well.

Do I need a second cleanser after the oil?

No. The oil and the foam it turns into cleanse the skin in two stages, so the double cleanse happens with one product.

Do I apply the oil to dry or wet skin?

To dry skin. On dry skin the oil dissolves make-up. Add water only when you want to turn the oil into a foam.

Does the oil exfoliate too?
