What are peptides and what do they do for skin?
Short answer

Peptides for skin are short chains of amino acids that skincare products use for a more elastic, hydrated look. In creams, serums and masks they usually sit alongside hyaluronic acid, collagen or niacinamide. The peptides in Deep Peptide Radiance Mask absorb quickly and support skin elasticity.

What are peptides for skin?
Proteins are made of amino acids. When a chain holds only a few amino acids, it is called a peptide. The word has become well known in skincare because many creams and serums say “peptide” or “peptide complex” on the pack. One product often contains several different types.
You may also see the same word on food supplements, for example collagen peptides. This post is only about peptides for skin, in products you apply to your face.
What do they do?
In skincare, peptides are associated with three things: elasticity, hydration and a firmer look. Here are examples from the Medicube range:
- Deep Peptide Radiance Mask holds a complex of four types of peptides that absorb quickly and support skin elasticity.
- In PDRN Pink Peptide Serum, peptides firm the skin and help lock in hydration.
- PDRN Pink Collagen Gel Mask contains several peptides together with salmon DNA, collagen and vitamin C.
Peptides for skin work together with other ingredients. That is why products that contain them nearly always include hyaluronic acid, which hydrates, and niacinamide, which supports an even complexion.

Which product should you choose?
- A serum for everyday care. PDRN Pink Peptide Serum is a light 30 ml pink serum that absorbs within minutes. It suits all skin types and is used morning and evening.
- A sheet mask for a quick treat. Deep Peptide Radiance Mask is a single-use 27 ml mask with a creamy essence. The vegan sheet fits closely to the skin and does not dry out quickly. Keep it on for 10–20 minutes, then pat the remaining essence into your face and neck.
- A gel mask for longer care. PDRN Pink Collagen Gel Mask is a pack of four masks. The mask turns from pink to transparent on the skin and is worn for 3–4 hours or overnight.
We cover the key ingredient of the pink range in more detail in our post on PDRN.

How do you add these products to your routine?
- Cleanse your skin and apply toner.
- Apply the serum to your face and neck and pat it in gently. Start with 2–3 drops and add one or two more layers if you like.
- Finish with a cream. In the morning, add sunscreen.
- If you want extra care, use a sheet or gel mask in the evening.
The pink serum fits most routines, including alongside vitamin C or retinol. More serums are waiting among our face serums.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use a peptide serum every day?
Yes. Use PDRN Pink Peptide Serum morning and evening.
What should I do with the leftover mask essence?
Pat it into your face and neck until your skin has absorbed it.
Do a serum and a mask replace a collagen supplement?
No. A serum and a mask care for the surface of the skin, while a supplement is taken internally. If you want collagen from the inside too, take a look at the collagen we sell.
