Glycolic acid is one of the alpha-hydroxy fruit acids, a natural acid derived from sugar cane that’s well known in aesthetic medicine and has quickly become an important ingredient in everyday cosmetic products as well.
When added to a face or body scrub or cream, glycolic acid gently removes dead skin cells, leaving skin smooth and radiant. Its exfoliating properties are less abrasive, it absorbs faster and more effectively, and by removing dead skin cells, glycolic acid improves the appearance of the epidermis, smooths wrinkles and reduces hyperpigmentation. Besides its immediate effect, it also helps speed up cell renewal. Glycolic acid also has a good skin-moisturising effect.
