The Top 5 Body Creams for Women
The prerequisite for radiant, healthy skin is daily moisturising with a quality body cream that suits your skin type. Whether there is an effective product for body care and moisturising among your beauty products depends on your preferences, your skin type and other particularities. Moisturising the skin is especially important in winter, when temperature fluctuations make our skin drier, more irritated and itchier. Skin is also affected by daily washing, for example with water that is too hot.

In the old days, because people washed rarely and had no soap, the human body protected its own moisture level. The first signs of body moisturising come from the Sumerian civilisation, where salves were made from powdered plants and tree oils. The ancient Egyptians also used moisturisers: Cleopatra, for example, loved milk baths and considered sour milk her best face moisturiser.

Suitable for all skin types, particularly rich yet quickly absorbed, the Collistar body cream with shea butter and mango was created together with experts from the University of Siena to make this highly moisturising combination of essential fatty acids, phytosterol and vitamin E. The cream effectively restores the skin’s hydrolipid layer, which stimulates the skin’s natural renewal processes and makes the skin more elastic. The cream can be used in every season.
The incredibly moisturising and senses-awakening Elizabeth Arden Green Tea body cream is also very rich in antioxidants thanks to its green tea content, which helps neutralise the effects of the external environment that damage the skin. Besides green tea, this aromatic body milk contains the scents of jasmine, raisins and fruits, which make it an ideal cream to use under Elizabeth Arden’s perfume of the same name to strengthen the scent even more. The body milk suits all skin types.
The Hempz Triple Moisture Herbal Whipped Body Moisturizer is especially suitable for dry but also mature skin, as the strongest-moisturising body cream in the Hempz range. This herbal, vegan body cream, free of parabens, gluten and THC, protects the skin with omega fatty acids and helps lock moisture into the skin. Rich hemp and yangu seed oil and shea butter help firm the skin and also contain vitamins A, C and E. The body cream is scented with aromatic grapefruit and peach, and its whipped texture makes applying it an especially pleasant activity.

With its melting texture and instant absorption, the Collistar moisturising body milk is ideal for dry and rough skin. The mango and shea butter and the hazelnut and jojoba oil in it moisturise the skin intensively, improve the skin’s hydrolipid layer, prevent premature ageing and protect against the harmful effects of free radicals and UV radiation. This body milk, light in composition yet effectively nourishing, makes your skin soft and elastic again.
Once more from the Hempz range, the Hempz Pomegranate Herbal body cream, rich in a spicy pomegranate aroma and antioxidants, suits all skin types that need rich moisturising. The multivitamins A, C and E, shea butter, ginseng, pomegranate and hemp seed oil care for the skin thoroughly, while protecting against the harmful effects of free radicals and giving the skin a healthy look. The cream is naturally free of parabens and gluten, 100% vegan and made with plant ingredients.

Why is it important to know your skin type and skin health: how do you choose a suitable body cream?
Because of modern living conditions and habits, moisturising the body is an unavoidable part of healthy skin care, regardless of gender or age. Whether your skin type is dry, oily or a combination of both, you need to moisturise it in any case. When choosing, you should also take the weather conditions into account, and the health of your skin plays an important role in your skin care too. Finding a moisturiser for your skin type may sound like an easy task, but when you get to the shelves you realise that the choice is very wide. Moisturisers can be classified in several ways, depending on the ratio of water to oil in them.
Ointments are extremely rich, with a higher oil content of up to 80%. Their role is to act as a barrier against harmful external influences and moisture loss, which means they stay on the surface of the skin for a while rather than being absorbed immediately. Ointments are generally made for treatment purposes and not for everyday skin care.
With a higher water content in their composition, creams are absorbed better into your skin. At the same time, their oil content is enough to soothe a rash or effectively moisturise dry, rough skin. They suit everyday use ideally for combination skin types.
Body milk and cream are often classified as equivalent products. If a cream contains 50/50 water and oil, a body milk usually contains more water and less oil. Because of their light composition, body milks are ideal for daily use, especially if your skin type is oily. They absorb quickly into the skin and do not leave an oily layer. For sensitive skin, be sure that the body milk does not contain alcohol, fragrances or preservatives, which can irritate the skin.
People with very oily skin have not been forgotten either. Gels are made on a base of cellulose, water and alcohol and are absorbed very quickly. With their oil-free composition they are ideal for very oily skin, providing the moisture it needs. Gels can also be a good option for face care in the hot and humid summer months. If you have sensitive skin, definitely avoid gel products that contain alcohol and perfume.
When choosing a body moisturiser, be guided by the following:
- What is your skin type? Choose a product from the category made just for you.
- Think also about when and where your skin needs moisturising. Choose a lighter moisturiser for the daytime and a richer one for the evening. Depending on the skin type, the face and body may need moisturisers with different compositions. In the summer months use lighter products.
- If your skin is sensitive, avoid ingredients such as alcohol and fragrances.
- Keep the weather conditions in mind. Are there cold winter months and wind ahead of you, or hot and humid tropics?
If the products mentioned above are not enough to moisturise your skin or do not seem to work at all, you should consult a dermatologist, who will recommend suitable moisturisers. Dry skin is caused not only by temperature fluctuations but also by changes in the epidermis, the top layer of the skin. Normally this layer is thick and in itself holds moisture and repels harmful external influences. Genes also play an important role. Dermatitis, an inflammation of the skin caused by external factors, produces an itchy rash on the skin. Atopic dermatitis, or eczema, is often hereditary and causes severe dry skin and itching. With immune-mediated psoriasis the rash often appears on the scalp, knees and elbows.
There is a large choice of body moisturisers, and you should certainly not choose only by a pleasant scent. Determine your skin type and find out whether your skin is sensitive to certain ingredients, and then you can decide whether your skin needs an ointment, a cream, a body milk or a gel. Make your choice with the weather conditions in mind. In a colder climate you definitely need more moisturising and richer creams, but in a hot climate lighter moisturisers with a higher water content. And if daily moisturising does not help you, be sure to consult a dermatologist.
